Diamonds in the rough
Although we have some huge names performing at the IAStival,
like The Sunshine Underground and Turin Brakes, we also have loads
of artists performing that are diamonds in the rough.
Friday night will give you the chance to decide two DJ's fate,
in our silent disco battle. Subflex and Skitz Sonix will both be
playing at the same time over two different channels on a sets of
headphones, but which one will you choose? Both of the DJ's have
similar dubstep/electro vibes and both will be able to keep the
hardcore people raving until the early hours. Subflex's Bobby Hall
from Sheffield, has played regular venues in Manchester as well as
Raw Festival, where he kept the dance tent booming through the
night.
One band to look out for on the Saturday night are One Too Many
Kicks, who are coming all the way from Pwllheli in the heart of
North Wales to perform. Made up of three guys and a girl, One Too
Many Kicks cover songs that you can instantly recognize. When I
last went to watch this band they included covers of Blink 182's
'All The Small Things' and covers from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
They covered loads of other tracks that the whole room knew the
lyrics to, as well as throwing in some of their own material, which
was just as entertaining.
Another one to watch on the Saturday night of the IAStival is
the lovely folk/rock band called The Off Chance. This group from
Swindon have a brilliantly upbeat sound and a philosophy that their
music should be enjoyed with the sun going down behind a festival
stage and having their songs floating on the warm air over the
crowd, which sounds like the perfect festival scenario. The Off
Chance's bass player, Ady Batt, is a former member of 'Shmoo' who
are also playing on the Saturday night of the IAStival.
Even though Ady has played in both bands, The Off Chance and
Shmoo couldn't be more different. Shmoo are a band of two brothers
from South Manchester that give lively performances of their
eccentric, electric tracks.
And finally Saturday night of the IAStival will be hosting
Ultimate Elton. Ultimate Elton, who is Paul Bacon by day, is an
Elton John tribute act that is almost as good as the real thing.
Ultimate Elton has a wardrobe full of replica classic Elton John
looks complete with dollar sign earrings, funky suits and
outrageous glasses. Ultimate Elton has taken his act to another
level by recording his very own music video to Elton's hit 'I'm
Still Standing'. On YouTube this video already received over 90,000
hits so make sure you catch Ultimate Elton at the IAStival.
