The Mouse Outfit Review
Even before I started my two weeks work experience at IAS, the
IAStival always seemed to come up in conversation with my sister.
The IAStival, compared to our small charity festival that we
organised a few years ago, had so much more going on that 'Raw
Festival' did. However some of the bands that did play at Raw
Festival are performing at the IAStival.
My favourite band that played at 'Raw' were The Mouse Outfit,
who are also playing the Saturday night at the IAStival. Although
we booked them knowing nothing about them they were an unbelievable
surprise when they came on stage. All nine performers piled out
onto the 'main stage', which was made out of two lorries, with a
range of instruments including a saxophone, a trumpet and a flute
and then they started their set. The MCs were rapping over the
funky sounds from the brass instruments and throwing in songs that
everyone recognised, like Mr. Scruff's 'Spandex Man' and lyrics
from 'Be Faithful' by Fat Man Scoop. They did a memorable remix to
Soulful Strut by Young-Holt Unlimited, which included a brilliant
trumpet solo and had the MCs rapping in perfect time. The Mouse
Outfit had the whole crowd moving from start to finish.
Their website says that The Mouse Outfit are a funk/hip-hop/rap
band based in Manchester. Although they are based in Manchester I
don't think their genre classification does them justice. It's more
like Dizzee Rascal meets James Brown or a mix of Wiley and Marvin
Gaye. Although that's not an entirely clear representation of their
music, The Mouse Outfit, since 'Raw Festival' have been discovered
by BBC introducing, so don't just take my word for it. These guys
are definitely one to watch at the IAStival.
